Amelia Holden, MSW RSW

“Therapy is like shopping for shoes, you need to try different types on before you really find the right fit.”

I am a registered social worker graduating from the Master’s of Social Work program at King’s University of Western Ontario in April 2007. The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers has granted me the ability to use Psychotherapist as a type of social work platform. Psychotherapy uses the bio-psycho-social approach when addressing the underlying causes of a person’s problems as well as how to solve them. Leaving the System, which is governed with many limitations around how humans heal, I founded my own private practice in 2019. As an integrative therapist at Y.O.U.R. Therapy Clinic, I use several Western and Eastern practices to help an individual understand themselves better and heal the wounds from their past which may be perpetuating relationship conflicts in the present.

As an integrative social worker, I have found through blending modalities the individual will find clarity in how they have developed into who they currently are; while building courage and connections to change the things that are no longer serving them; along with providing themselves compassion for the past; and the confidence and curiosity for their future endeavors.

Acknowledging the courage it took for you to reach out to a stranger for help at the most vulnerable time in your life, Amelia will listen to your narrative and share any knowledge and skills which can help bring balance to your life. Amelia believes it is important to validate the client’s perspective, allow them to grow from learning through making mistakes, and giving them the knowledge of how to accept the things they cannot change and to change the things they can control.

Amelia promotes self growth and development in her daily life by practicing mindfulness, attending professional development courses, and building collaborations with other practitioners in the community.

Within the past decade of my career I have been trained in specific Western skills therapies such as: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Trauma Informed Therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), helps you identify unhealthy, negative beliefs and behaviors and replace them with healthy, positive ones. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), another model that teaches behavioral skills to help you handle stress through applying mindfulness techniques, regulate your emotions, and improve your relationships with others with effective communication. Trauma Informed Therapy (also recognizing childhood developmental trauma), provides psychoeducation on the neurobiology of the brain and how it has been impacted by trauma. Utilizing methods such Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experience and psychedelic assisted therapy to help heal the whole person and not pathologize parts of the person based on diagnosis.

Not accepting new referrals.
